Short answers...
ReplyDelete-love God, love others
-everyone
-define a pre-resurrection church
I was just thinking about how easy it is for us to start thinking about what we want the church to be... and how dangerous it is when we drift into thinking & behaving as if the church's main focus should be the church people.
ReplyDeleteExploring the tension between reaching outside the gathered circle of believers and doing what we need to do to help those within that circle continue to grow & develop as disciples.
Luke 19:10 says that Jesus came to "seek & save that which was lost". Matt. 28 basically tells us to go do the same thing, with Holy Spirit empowerment.
ReplyDeleteWe tend to think of the church in terms of corporate American structure and mission. That is terribly wrong! We are to be an extension of Jesus AND His mission. Save, teach, save, teach, save,... Anything outside of that is extraneous noise. The whole "love God, love others" thing sounds good, but really doesn't mean anything if we don't have the actions that live it out "James 1".
I agree...loving God and loving others is all about action...much more than a nice emotion or grouping of words.
ReplyDeleteand actually, I think Paul said anything without love is extraneous noise...and I would go on to say even teaching and presenting Christ for salvation...if I don't have love in those things, they are worthless.
ReplyDeleteJust want to thank you guys for effectively planting some old school DC Talk back into my cranium - "Love is a Verb".
